Mersing to Tioman Island Ferry

Mersing is known as the gateway to Tioman Island, with only three daily Blue Water Ferry services available. The ferries are the only way to reach the remote island, and travelers can choose the appropriate drop-off point based on their hotel or resort booking. The ferry ride from Mersing to Tioman Island is relatively short. Mersing Jetty is situated in the Mersing Harbour Centre in Malaysia's Johor state. The harbor is near the Mersing bus station, and visitors can book a bus from Johor Bahru to Mersing. 

Tioman Island, also known as Pulau Tioman, is a small island off Pahang in Southeast Asia, with warm beaches, coral reefs, and marine life. The island can be reached via the Mersing jetty or Tanjung Gemok ferry, and the best time to visit is from June to August.

Things to do on Tioman Island

• Scuba diving is available at various rates on Tioman island. It is cheaper at Air Batang than in other areas. There are various dive centres available here. Many of them offer diving assistance and accommodation as well. You will need a short training session to be eligible for diving.
• Snorkelling is the most popular activity here. You can easily find a ride from several resorts to the beaches where you can go snorkelling. Wet suits will be available for rent from the various dive centres around. There are jellyfish around whose sting will require medical attention. So it is better to wear long-sleeved clothes or use a rash guard.
• Surfing may not be a popular option but you can still do it, especially during the monsoon season. The tide may only be 2 m or so in height.
• Trekking: There are various trekking trails available at Tioman Island. There is the tough Juara jungle trek which will take a few hours to complete, the more challenging Waterfall trail, and the exciting Juara Turtle Project trek.

Tourists visiting Marine Parks Malaysia have to pay a nominal conservation charge as required by the Fees Act 1951, Fees (Marine Parks Malaysia) Order 2017. The revenue collected from the charge goes to the Marine Parks and Marine Reserves Trust Fund to manage and maintain the parks, and to provide facilities and comfort to visitors.

People with disabilities are exempted from the charge, and residents living on islands surrounded by Marine Parks are also exempted.
