About Zoo Negara Malaysia

Nestled on 110 acres of lush land, Zoo Negara Malaysia, also known as the National Zoo of Malaysia, is a premier wildlife sanctuary located in the northeast corner of Kuala Lumpur, approximately 5 km away from the bustling city.

The sanctuary includes marine, avian, and terrestrial inhabitants. Home to 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. These animals are kept in dedicated enclosures that match their natural habitats and receive high-quality veterinary care and husbandry. Here, you can learn about wildlife conservation, recreation, research, and education.  The educational show provides wide information on each animal, including nicknames, scientific names, and threats.

The Zoo Negara Tickets are for one-time entry only. It is recommended that you book your tickets in advance. Ticket prices start at MYR 45 after a discount. Children under 3 receive free entry. Tickets are non-cancellable and non-refundable.

The Chinese government has recognised Zoo Negara as one of the world's top giant panda caregivers after the panda couple Xing Xing and Liang Liang helped implement the Giant Panda Conservation Initiatives in 2014. Please note that the Giant Panda Conservation Centre is temporarily closed.

🤩Hornbill Centre

Seven of the ten hornbill species known in Malaysia are housed in Zoo Negara. The Hornbill Centre was established in 2010 as a breeding facility for Great, Rhinoceros, Wrinkled, and Oriental Pied Hornbills.

🐊Reptile House

The Reptile House in Zoo Negara features both indoor and outdoor displays. Meet the world's most enormous saltwater crocodile as it relaxes in its swimming pool.

🐘Malaysian Elephants

There are three Malaysian Elephants at Zoo Negara. These were relocated from Pahang, aged 20s to early 30s: Siti (female), Sibol (female), and Teriang (male).

Tunku Abdul Rahman Lake, located in the centre of Zoo Negara, is home to more than 300 free-roaming birds. The two islands in the lake's centre are home to pelicans, ibises, egrets, swans, and painted storks.

🐈Cat Walk

See the African Lions at Zoo Negara's Cat Walk, an open-concept exhibit where they sleep on the platform, resembling the real-life Lion King. When you visit these large cats on a hot, sunny afternoon, you can hear them growl or see them swim in the pool in front of you.

🦍Ape Centre

The Ape Centre is located at the pinnacle of Zoo Negara. It houses two kinds of orangutans, Bornean and Sumatran, and a group of African chimpanzees.

The Zoo Negara adoption program helps to provide food, veterinary care, and habitat enhancement for animals in the zoo's care. It is a symbolic adoption, and the animals will remain at the zoo; no one can take them home. The animals already have names, and they continue to receive full support, care, and feeding from the Zoo.

Parking at Zoo Negara

Parking at Zoo Negara is convenient and easy for visitors arriving by car. Parking fees are RM15 per entry, with two designated areas: Car Park A and Car Park B (open when Car Park A is complete).

Important: Parking payment is cash only and must be made directly at the autopay machine beside the ticket counter. It is recommended to bring some cash with you, especially on weekends and public holidays.

Zoo Negara provides wheelchairs, baby strollers, and umbrella rental services at Information Counter B for visitor convenience.

Tram Rides inside the Zoo

Zoo Negara offers a tram ride service, perfect for large families or visitors who want to save energy while exploring the zoo. The regular tram service has two designated stops.

 A VIP Tram is also available for RM399 for a 1-hour ride, featuring a personal driver and unlimited stops. It is ideal for large groups of up to 9 passengers.

Walking around Zoo Negara takes around 2 hours. Here is how you can plan your day out:

  • Board a train at the entrance.

  • Visit the Bird House

  • Take a tour of the Savannah Walk and watch the Ape Centre and Mammal Kingdom.

  • Board the train again and go to the Reptile House.

  • Walk down to the Bear Complex

  • Grab some food at the restaurant. Outside food and beverages are not permitted in the zoo.
